Meet the Family Behind Haute Cature
I’ve spent most of my career as an advertising creative director for a long list of brands. I studied art, painted and sold my work over the years, but the piece most literally in a permanent collection is a tattoo of one of my paintings on my best friend’s hip. Cats, however, were never part of the plan. I actively did not like them.
Then we visited Kitten Rescue and met Brenda. She had feline leukemia and wobbly cat syndrome, which meant she walked like she’d had a bit too much champagne. She sold herself in about five minutes. We adopted her as a pair with Mabel, and together they won over our entire family, including my husband, who swore we would never be cat people. We had four wonderful years with them, which is a long time for leukemia cats.

Brenda and Mabel. The originals. One wobbly, one gooey, both unforgettable. Below, Brenda shows off her adorable signature walk.
Winston and Diesel. The sequel. Brenda’s spirit and Mabel’s heart, in new coats.
Then we went back to Kitten Rescue and adopted another pair. Diesel, an alley kitten who is part Bengal, means my son practically got the dog he always wanted. Winston, who is part Ragdoll, means the rest of us got a pillow. We were officially hooked.

After years of building brands for other people, I finally had the chance to build one just for fun. My family said, “Go for it.” So I asked myself what I truly loved. Art. Cats. So I gave the masters a few new muses: cats.

Haute Cature is our family’s first small business. I may have painted the cats, but my husband, my kids and four very persuasive rescues made it happen. Every design is original, every printed piece is made to order, and it all started with Brenda.
